What is Bubble Wrap? It is a transparent item made of plastic and is usually used to pack delicate items. There are tiny sphere like objects on its surface which are actually filled with air and provide a soft surface on which glassware can be placed/packed. How to use a Bubble-wrap: Remove the bubble-wrap from its packing. A closer examination will reveal that it has two sides. One side has protrusions that look like bubbles and the other side is ‘bubble free’ which is smooth. The bubbles that are visible are in fact air bubbles that are crafted onto it. The smoother side should be the side in contact with the decanter or glass article. If the bubble side is placed on the side of the decanter/glass article, it may stick to the surface of the decanter. If you want to keep out dust and other foreign particles it is better to use ‘anti-static’ wrap. Now keep the decanter on the wrap. Completely cover the decanter with the bubble wrap. For added cushioning and security place the entire package in a cardboard box. Bubble wrap is available in different sizes. Choose the appropriate size keeping the object being packed in mind. For packing decanters, it is better to have more than one layer of packing. General tips on packaging decanters: 1) Don’t pack decanters one on top of the other as this may cause stress and set up cracks in the decanters. 2) Clean the decanter before packing. Use a soft brush to wipe the decanter. A soft brush is used to avoid scratches. It also has access to restricted places. 3) If the decanter needs to be washed before packing, wash it with soapy water preferably in plastic basin or it might result in scratches on the decanter. 4) If the decanter is iridized, dry it immediately after washing or the water may leave stains. In such a case, just dip it in water and then dry it again. 5) If you are wearing a diamond studded ring be careful while handling the decanter. Diamond is harder than glass and can cause scratches on the decanter. 6) If there are etchings on the decanter which are sand blasted or acid etched, clean the decanter and rub a little oil on the surface with a soft cloth. Wipe off the excess oil and wipe with a dry cloth. 7) Place the decanter which is packed in bubble wrap in a cardboard box.
