Now that it’s summer and the kids are on vacation, that they have all the time they need to splash around in the swimming pool. All that’s okay but you have to get their commitment to help you clean up the swimming pool after all that splashing around. The pool is bound to get dirty and it will take team effort to get it really clean for the rest of the summer. The first thing you need to discuss with your kids is to divvy up 8 hours each week to clean the pool. That’s really not a lot of time when you’re talking about 168 hours that make up a week. The second thing you need to decide on is who among your kids will be allowed to help with the task. This is something that older kids should do, say 12 years old up. The younger ones can be in charge of helping mom with the refreshments for the “pool boys.” So are you ready to get started?
Here’s how you can plan to clean your swimming pool.
- Get the tools that are right for this job. If you don’t have some of these in your tool shed, you might want to invest and buy what’s missing. You’ll need these long-term anyway.
- Leaf skimmer with a long handle. This is precisely what you need for taking leaves and other debris out of the pool.
- Portable vacuum. The kind of course that is tailor-fit for sucking dirt from the swimming pool floor. Look for the customized design that allows you to fit the contraption into the swimming pool’s circulation or get the alternative – the one that operates from an independent power supply.
- Brush. Preferably the kind that is made of nylon bristles that can effectively clean the walls of swimming pools made from materials like porcelain, tile, or fiberglass.
- Pumice stone. Yes, the ones that are used to slough off dead skin from the feet and elbows can work as great for stubborn and hard-to-remove stains in your swimming pool.
- Algae brush. If you see algae growing in your pool, this is the perfect brush to get rid of this green stuff. Leaving it there will encourage rapid algae growth that cannot be good for your swimming pool.
